The fourth derivative from the landmark map of Virginia by John Smith that was first published in 1612. This is an attractive map that was first published in "Atlas Sive Cosmographicae Meditationes De Fabrica Mundi Et Fabricati Figura" - Cloppenburg's slightly larger format and more scarce edition of the Mercator/Hondius "Atlas Minor". The maps were mainly
engraved by Pieter Van Den Keere (this example has an engraved signature) and were first published with French text to the verso in 1630. Later editions appeared in 1632 (with Latin text), 1636 (French) and 1673 (as here, without text and published by Jansson's heirs). With paper restoration and reinstatement at lower left with other minor tears and
areas of paper weakness restored.
