An attractive view from the sea of the Peruvian city of Paita. on the north-west coast of the country. From 1578 to 1588, Paita was the Spanish capital of the northwestern Peruvian coast, before the permanent attacks of English pirates and corsairs made it necessary to relocate the capital. This harbour view is set in a page of text and combines views of European ships, the old town in flames, natives on rafts and, presumably, a massive Andean Condor being ferried on a raft by two seamen.
