A good example of a finely engraved and attractively coloured map from Willem and Joan Blaeu's "Theatrum Orbis Terrarum" - one of the finest atlas productions of the seventeenth century. The Blaeu family, from about 1630, were regarded as the finest map and atlas publishers until around 1670 when the family warehouse burnt down. The maps are known for their fine presentation, detail and elaborate decorative cartouches and vignettes. This detailed map shows the area immediately north of Paris. Latin text to verso.
