An attractive woodblock map/plan of the Bavarian city of Freising. The attractive engraving shows the town in detail with major buildings and local landmarks identified, flanked by the coats of arms of the district of Freising (right), and the city (left), a saddled bear. Sebastian Munster's "Cosmographia" was an all-encompassing encyclopedia of geographical, historical, topographical and social commentary. Munster was a formidable polymath with knowledge of Hebrew, mathematics, languages and cartographic studies and was responsible for producing the first set of maps of the World and each Continent.
