An attractive woodblock map/plan of the Alsatian town of of Sélestat. The attractive engraving shows the town in detail with local landmarks identified. Above the town a child riding a bird carries the coat of arms of the Holy Roman Empire. Sebastian Munster's "Cosmographia" was an all-encompassing encyclopaedia of geographical, historical, topographical and social commentary. Munster was a formidable polymath with knowledge of Hebrew, mathematics, languages and cartographic studies and was responsible for producing the first set of maps of the World and each Continent.
