An important map of the Holy Land. West, rather than north, appears at the top of the map thus making Jerusalem central. Attractive original colour defines the Tribes on both sides of the Jordan. The title cartouche along the top of the map is held in place by fruitful garlands and cherubim. A bold engraving at the bottom of the map shows the Tribes in the desert surrounding the Tabernacle with Moses and Aaron on either side. Emblematic fishing (Visscher) children appear on the mileage scale. Visscher's maps of the Holy Land were particularly influential, being prepared for use in Dutch bibles and subsequently copied, with, or more often without, credit in other Dutch, German and English Bibles of the period. This is his original atlas map with the additional imprint of Pieter Schenk who re-issued the plate. Evidence of old central folds but overall a good example, with wide margins of an uncommon map.
