An early and detailed chart of the Gold Coast, modern day Ghana, from the River Ancobar in the west to the Volta in the east. Produced to serve the French vessels competing with other European powers for the trade in gold at this time on the orders of M.Rouille, Secretary of State for the Marine Department. Numerous depth soundings along the coast are shown, as are coastal towns and forts including St George de la Mine aux Hollandois (Elmina). A strong fresh impression of one of the earliest precise charts of this coast.
