Abissinia Doue Sono Le Fonti De Nilo ... : V.M.Coronelli

From Vincenzo Coronelli's "Atlante Veneto" this strongly engraved map is one of the earliest and most detailed of present-day Ethiopia. An inset map shows the course of the Nile, with its source as two large sub-equatorial lakes. However, the confusion over the Nile's source is clearly illustrated on the larger map which shows the river emanating from a single lake, north of the equator. Most of the map's information would have come from the Jesuits active in the region, thus churches are shown as well as mountains in relief. Textual annotations in Italian concern some of the peoples and their characteristics.
