A superb engraving set in a page of Latin text, illustrating the Dutch capture of Mozambique from the Portuguese. De Bry's intricate style enables many different aspects of a battle scene to be portrayed, including different types of weaponry, planned and makeshift defences, the protection of churches, the transference of gunpowder between ships, and a group of fleeing (presumably Portuguese) troops. A perceptive, historical item.
