This attractive map of the Americas was first published in Bowen's "A Complete System Of Geography" and was later published in "The Maps And Charts To The Modern Part Of The Universal History". It showns both North and South America in good detail along with a number of Pacific islands, including a rather enlarged Solomon Isles group. North America is depicted
with a peninsula California and with rather curiously shaped Great Lakes - at first glance they appear to be six in number with many interior islands. In South America the Amazon is shown flowing almost to the Pacific coast. Carefully coloured, this is a delightful map from one of the most well-known of the eighteenth-century English mapmakers.
