A scarce sheet from Philippe Vandermaelen's "Atlas Universel". This important atlas covered the whole world in five volumes in 400 sheets at a very large scale and being sectional created maps that spanned borders. When put together the maps might cover a globe spanning 7.775 metres in diameter, and it is believed that only one globe was built - this was kept at the Etablissement Geographique in Brussels. Although entitled part of Germany, this map covers the border area that extends from Berlin to Grodno and south to Vienna so incorporating Prague, Cracow, and so on.
