The titlepage to the third part of Johannes Jansson's "Atlas Novus", dealing with those regions of the world beyond European borders, is flanked by the grand and imposing figures of Ptolemy and Marinus. The "Novus Atlas" became known as such from 1638 and this example of the titlepage bears Jansson's name but not a printed date as the example in "Courtiers And Cannibals" does. The centrally placed globe focuses on Asia and the Middle East with Africa also visible. With attractive original colour and some gold highlighting this is a good titlepage example from one of the great atlases of the so-called "golden age" of Dutch cartography.
