A finely engraved full length portrait of a seemingly mythological fencing character holding a trident and lightning rod, standing atop a tortoise/turtle. At either side of the figure are a monkey and a dog whilst in the background is a recumbent deer. Above the figure is an empty ribboned cartouche straddled by an eagle. Before the figure stands a long bladed fencing sword. The design is set within a geometric framework of a criss-crossed circle, around which and within which the letters of the alphabet appear and, at the figures feet the inscription "Circulus N" with a small clover-leaf. It was published in Thibault's "Academie De L'Espee", an elaborately illustrated book on fencing.
