William Faithorne the elder (1616-1691) was an engraver of prints, titlepages, bookplates, portraits and maps in London. This engraving is signed by A.Bannerman in the lower right corner and is based on one of the sitter's own works. The portrait shows Faithorne within an oval looking over his left shoulder.
