From the rare Spanish text edition of Blaeu's atlas this map shows the Fens and the Wash including parts of Norfolk, Suffok, Cambridgeshire, Huntingdonshire, Northamptonshire and Lincolnshire. The map shows the drainage dykes and "engineering" of the land that was being undertaken at
the time of publication. Cornelis Vermuyden, a Dutchman, was appointed by Charles I to employ his knowledge and experience in the draining of the Fens. Vermuyden's nationality helps to explain the appearance of this map (in addition to the relevant county maps) in the Blaeu atlas. Expert restoration to areas of paper weakness.
