A German parlour book intended for family use and study that includes a folding, double-hemisphere map of the world showing the Christian and non-Christian countries of the world. The Christian countries are depicted in white and the non-Christian countries are shown to be in darkness and are coloured black. The map is surrounded by allegorical illustrations from around the world including an elephant, oriental King and Native Americans, and between the two hemispheres are a small globe with a crucifix above and a praying man on bended knee - one of the converted. This map folds out of the volume and measures 24 x 18.5 cm. The map is also known in a larger format with the imprint of Kaufman. The rest of the volume comprises Tp, pp.1-384 with 15 lithograph images including biblical scenes. A fascinating insight. Marbled boards a little worn at the edges. Internal contents very clean.
