A detailed and attractive nineteenth-century map of Japan that was published by Archibald Fullarton in "The Royal Illustrated Atlas Of Modern Geography With An Introductory Notice By Dr. N. Shaw, Secretary To The Royal Geographical Society". Fullarton's lithograph maps often combine the increasingly accurately recorded geography of the period with lively illustration. This map is decorated with vignettes of The port of Simoneseke, Japanese Nobleman and Fishermen, and Japanese women of higher and lower class. There are also inset plans of Nagasaki. The map was engraved by J.Bartholomew and printed by A.Fullarton whose imprints appear at the borrom right and bottom centre of the sheet respectively.
