Burgundia Ducatus : J.Le Clerc

A beautifully engraved map of Burgundy, showing hill ranges, river crossings and forests with feather-like trees. Part of the graticule border on this example is missing from the lower margin due to the copperplate having broken. Le Clerc was one of the fourth generation of a family of booksellers and printers. Taking refuge in Tours with his family after trouble in Liege, he worked with M. Bouguereau, plates from whose "Theatre" formed the core of Le Clerc's own atlas. Le Clerc died in 1621 or 1622, but his atlas continued to be published after his death, bearing the address of his widow.
