A beautiful map of Poitiers. The sea is engraved with a moiree effect; ribbon-like rivers, forests and bridges are shown. Le Clerc's name appears in the lower right-hand corner. Le Clerc was one of the fourth generation of a family of booksellers and printers. Taking refuge in Tours with his family after trouble in Liege, he worked with M. Bouguereau, plates from whose "Theatre" formed the core of his own atlas. Le Clerc died in 1621 or 1622, but his atlas continued to be published after his death, bearing the address of his widow.
