A highly decorative and scarce map of the Champagne region, with a large coat of arms in the lower left-hand corner. In the lower right-hand corner, the name of the artist Damien de Templeux appears in an elaborate cartouche, with long-necked winged women garlanded with fruit emerging from the surround. Le Clerc was one of the fourth generation of a family of booksellers and printers. Taking refuge in Tours with his family after trouble in Liege, he worked with M. Bouguereau, plates from whose "Theatre" formed the core of his own atlas. Le Clerc died in 1621 or 1622, but his atlas continued to be published after his death, bearing the address of his widow. A little ink staining to the mileage scale of this example.
