A wonderfully decorated map of the world whose title translates as "Air and Ocean Currents" on Mercator's projection, surrounded by a dozen illustrations of marine conditions, wildlife and marine activities. The map itself shows the warm and cold currents of the oceans and the air, marked by arrows. Around it, dramatic scenes of whale, turtle and herring fishing, waterspouts and stormy seas alternate with depictions of seabirds, coral and fish. The map appeared in "Handatlas Uber alle Theile der Erde und Uber das Weltgebaude" one of a number of German publications introducing thematic studies in cartographic form in an age of increasingly scientific investigation into the natural world.
