A beautiful almost-modern world map, coloured in detail to show the variety of vegetation and environments across the planet. Striking features include the historical extent of the rainforests in the 1950s, the variety of ecosystems in Australia, and the sharp divide between wet and dry across the United States. Beneath the main map are three insets showing temperatures in January and July and types of land use (including "hunting and gathering" alongside lumber and crops). This attractive and educational map appeared in the "Times Atlas Of The World - Mid-Century Edition", one of the finest atlases of the last century.
