French text to verso. A boldly engraved and very attractive example of Jodocus Hondius' map of the entire Middle East. Arabia is shown in good detail with an empty, but mountainous, interior. The map's title is set in a large strap-work cartouche topped by a portrait of Sultan Mahumet. Curiously, this is one of the few early maps to refer to the Gulf as "Sinus Arabicus".
