A classic decorative county map from John Speed's atlas, in its first edition. Text on the reverse describes the county and gives a gazetteer. The map is illustrated with two detailed town plans, of Gloucester and Bristol, on the Somerset/Gloucester border, but which Speed recounts "will not be counted in either". A panel at the right shows the arms of the Earls and Dukes of Gloucester, while to the left ancient battles in the county are described.
