A curious and attractive map, copied from one first published in Alexandre Exquemelin's "The Bucaneers Of America", 1685, an account of the activities and voyages, mainly, of the British privateer Capt. Bartholomew Sharpe. Sharpe and his men had sacked Porto Bello in 1679 and, over the next couple of years, attacked and plundered Spanish shipping and coastal bases to great effect. Amongst the booty was a book of sea charts which was presented to Charles II. This version of the map has the signature of a little known engraver Boneau, and is well detailed with numerous small vignettes of ships, settlements and animals. Old folds and tears expertly restored.
