An attractive and detailed map of Oxfordshire. These county maps, engraved by Emanuel Bowen, first appeared in "Britannia Depicta Or Ogilby Improv'd", issued by Thomas Bowles. Despite the small dimensions, the maps contain much information such as rivers, hills, towns, hundreds, churches and the arms of William Cavendish. The space between county boundary and frame is taken up with descriptive details, compiled by the lawyer and antiquarian John Owen. These notes relate to the geography and history of the county, a practice carried to great lengths in Bowen's later and larger atlases.
