A detailed map by Emanuel Bowen, one of the most prolific mapmakers of 18th century England, showing Behring's travels from Tobolsk over Lake Baikal to Kamchatka. A disproportionately large titlepiece occupies an otherwise unplotted and unknown expanse of the Arctic coastline of Siberia, and shows two Tartar figures, equipped for hunting and has a brief dictionary of terms from the Russian to English for the words - Krepost (fortress), Ostrog (little fort), Sloboda (borough) and Monastir (convent).
