Tp, vx, [ie xv], [1], 696p, [25] leaves of plates and maps folded: ill. 8vo. Title page in red and black, with a half-title. This copy is of the variant edition printed vx instead of xv. On front endpapers, the coat of arms of Robert Chambré Vaughan of Burlton Hall, Co. Salop. An attractive and intact example of the twelfth edition of a popular, but rarely seen now, general history of the world and its countries. 22 maps and 3 plates are finely engraved with attractive rococo decoration and include a fine double hemisphere world, countries of Europe, Asia, China, North America and so on. Engraved maps by Jeffery have ornate and charming cartouches in many cases, such as Scotland, with barrels, bird of prey and fish, and Ireland, with fiddle and artist's palette. Maps folded in and generally fine, one or two minor tears not affecting printed detail. The binding is contemporary calf.
