With attractive contemporary colour and finely engraved this detailed map of Sicily, with the signature of Gerard Mercator at lower left was published by Jodocus Hondius for the continuation of Gerard Mercator's renowned "Atlas". The Mannerist cartouche , swash lettering and detailed depiction of mountain ranges and other natural features and churches, make this a most attractive map. The verso text is in Latin.
