Migeon was a well-known and respected Parisian publisher of the mid-nineteenth century. This map, centred on 'Nouvelle Hollande' or Australia, is attractively adorned with decorative vignette illustrations, yet also with informative and accurate geography. There is an illustration of world comparative mountain heights along the base of the map, and at the top there are five detailed engravings of exotic scenes. Seventeenth and eighteenth century explorers and their dates and routes , such as that of Cook, are noted. Engraving is by Sengteller and the lettering is credited to I. Dalmont. A good example of steelplate engraving.
