A very early miniature map of Syria and the Holy Land with Cyprus, produced for the first miniature World atlas and one of the first to combine classical Ptolemaic cartography with the latest cartography. Giacomo Gastaldi was one of the leading mapmakers of the day, at a time when Rome and Venice were particularly significant for their map and print production. Gastaldi's "Geographia ..." appeared in only one edition, in Italian, and is rare. This little map is surprisingly detailed, the small island of Cyprus having several towns identified. A good example.
