Authentic Map of The World On Mercator's Projection : George Philip & Son Ltd

click here to view a large version in a separate window

A map of the world on Mercator's projection showing British possessions coloured in red; French, German, Italian, US, Dutch, Spanish and Portuguese possessions are likewise identified. The map also depicts the principal railway routes, the position of submarine telegraph cables and International Time Zones are marked along the lower border. Originally published folded into card covers (one still present), the map has been flattened for convenience. The aim of this series of Shilling Maps is to identify recent discoveries and political changes. The furthest point north in Greenland at this point is C. Washington (Lockwood's discovery of 1882). With evidence of original folds but very presentable this is an interesting map.
