A Mapp Of the Kingdome Of Scotland : R. Blome

An attractive and uncommon map of all mainland Scotland with the Western Isles. The map's title cartouche, at top right, is balanced by a dedication, beneath the Royal Arms, to the popular Duke of Monmouth, bastard son of Charles II, who was executed for his attempt to replace James II on the throne. James Scott, 1st Duke of Monmouth, 1st Duke of Buccleuch, KG, PC ( 1649 –1685) was an English nobleman born in Rotterdam, the eldest illegitimate son of Charles II of England, Scotland and Ireland and his mistress Lucy Walter. The map has a distinctive title cartouche consisting of two sea monsters, and finely depicted fishing boats on the sea. Mountains are shown pictorially and the colouring is very attractive. The map is laid down with a tear to bottom left edge with very slight loss to printed border of the map, but a decorative example.
