John Cary was renowned as the leading British cartographer at the turn of the eighteenth century - his atlases of county maps and road books, in pocket form for travellers, at quarto size for practical reference and, as here, large atlas folio were the most successful publications of the period. This large scale map is well detailed but clearly engraved with towns, villages, major houses, parks, rivers, roads and canals and notable physical features delineated with hatchuring. Attractive light original colour.
