A famous woodblock image from the "Cosmographia". The "Cosmographia" was inspired by Ptolemy's classical text and the vast number of maps which eventually appeared in the work reflects the increased geographical awareness of the period. This attractive miniature shows the island with its mountain ranges divided by rivers and just three towns marked. A good example of one of the earliest available maps of the island alone.
