Regnorum Sicilae Et Sardiniae ... : J.B.Homann

click here to view a large version in a separate window

An attractive and detailed map showing the islands of Sardinia, Sicily and Malta dominated by a fine and decorative titlepiece incorporating mythical figures, cherubs and coats of arms. Details at each lower corner illustrate Catania and Etna, in Sicily, and a plan of Valletta harbour and its defences. Johan Baptist Homann was the leading German map maker and publisher of the period and this map is a fine example of his attention to detail allied to a bold decorative design. Minor centrefold restoration but a very nice example.
