A very rare example of Spanish cartographic printing. Despite the importance of Spanish voyages of discovery during the sixteenth century very few maps were published of those accounts in Spain - a reflection of the significance and secrecy surrounding their discoveries. This is a copy of Abraham Ortelius's very influential first atlas world map with the distinctive bulge in South America and huge southern landmass, and with four circular maps of each continent in the corners as in Ortelius's ancient world map. Nicely and disticntively engraved and set in an elaborate strapwork surround the map appeared in a Spanish translation of Botero's "Relaciones Universales del Mundo ...". Minor marginal restoration and two streaks of print lightness, nevertheless a very acceptable and attractive example from the home of many of the great early explorers.
