recent arrival
First edition of this classic decorative county map from John Speed's atlas. Text on the reverse describes the county and gives a gazetteer. The map itself is decorated with the arms of the Earls of Kent, starting with Odo of Bayeux, William the Conqueror's brother, and with plans of Canterbury (extensively keyed) and of Rochester. A good impression of this sought-after map from the first atlas of Britain, this is a very decorative example despite expertly restored margins where originally trimmed very close. - hardly noticeable from the front view but slightly obscuring verso text.
