A good example of this boldly engraved and decorative map of the Holy Land divided into the Tribal designations. A large figured title-piece shows Moses receiving the Tablets on Mount Sinai against a background of Old Testament imagery and is balanced, in the opposite right-hand corner by an inset detail map of the route of the Exodus. Johann Baptist Homann was the leading German map maker/publisher of the period and the work is typified by the strong engraving style and bright colour washes used.
