An interesting map engraved by Samuel Neele in 1797 for inclusion in Clement Cruttwell's "Gazetteer". Extending northwards from just south of the Arctic Circle this clearly engraved map shows the limit of knowledge of these northern climes - the whole area of north of Spitzbergen is designated "Great Frozen Ocean". Attractive full wash colour example of the first edition.
