An interesting map originally engraved by Samuel Neele in 1797 for inclusion in Clement Cruttwell's "Gazetteer". Extending northwards from just south of the Arctic Circle this clearly engraved map shows the limit of knowledge of these northern climes, with updates since the map's first edition most notably along the northern Asia coast where new locations and better defined coastlines appear. Northern Norway, Spitsbergen and Nova Zemla are also better delineated but the whole area of north of Spitzbergen is designated "Great Frozen Ocean". Attractive outline colour.
