A very detailed and informative map by one of the leading European mapmakers of the day - renowned for updated and informative, precise cartography and, in this instance, with the areas surrounding the circular central map filled with 15 inset details of specific discoveries and comparative spheres. The Polar coastline is beginning to appear with Victoria Land and Wilkes Land best defined, and the map has the additional detail of Ross and Moore's voyages and, most recently, Nares in 1874.. The map appeared in Stieler's Hand-Atlas.
