Boldly engraved by Tobias Conrad Lotter, this is a particularly decorative and detailed map of the northern Swiss town of Schaffhausen on the upper reaches of the Rhine. Dominated by a large title cartouche showing a mountainous background to a foreground scene of Bacchus, merchants, Neptune and coats of arms, the map is of particular interest for its depiction of relief, shown by hachuring , forests, roads and rivers. A fine example, with strong original colour, of a rare map.
