An uncommon and interesting map extending from Saida and Damascus south to Gaza and the Dead Sea. Unlike most maps of this region the emphasis is on contemporary geography rather than Biblical description. A small inset at lower right gives detail of Jerusalem's environs and a large title cartouche occupies top left. The map was prepared by Phillipe De La Rue for publication by Pierre Mariette, successor to the great French cartographer Nicolas Sanson. Minor marginal reinforcement but otherwise a good example.
