A fascinating and amusing engraving by Parisian Jean le Pautre for Felibien's "Description De La Grotte De Versailles" an account of the gardens at Versailles showing elements of bas-reliefs to be seen there. Surmounted by an allegorical reference to Louis XIIII - the Sun King, the plate has six spheres depicting the four continents and, interestingly the north and south poles - Terre Arctique and Antarctique - as separate entities.
