Regiones Et Nomina Ventorum : J. Honter

An early and scarce miniature world map set within letterpress giving the names, in Latin and Greek, of the world's prevailing winds. Johannes Honter's pocket geography book "Rudimenta Cosmograia" contained a slightly larger scale world map and was first published in Kracow in 1530. We believe this little map appeared in a later edition from Kronstadt. The circular map (approx 42mms in diam) shows Africa, Asia and Europe with the very narrow-shaped American continent in two parts, North and South. With protective added left margin, and backed with archivist tissue, but a good example of an amusing and rare map.
