An interesting and attractive detailed map of the United States' metropolis of New York. Colton & Co was one of the best and most prolific of United States cartographic publishers producing atlases and separately issued travelling and wall maps of all parts of the growing United States and the World. Maps were typically, as here, set in elaborate strapwork or foliate surrounds. This map shows Manhattan from Governor's Island to 86th Street with Central Park to north of the Reservoir and, in an inset an extension to 225th Street. Brooklyn and Hoboken are also shown fully developed. A good example with tissue backed protected margins.
