A charming and interesting little chart showing the English Channel - "Canal de la Manche" with the south coast of England - Cornwall, Devon, Dorsetshire, Sussex, Kent and a large section of France - Bretagne, Normandie, Picardie, Artois. There is an inset map in the bottom right corner extending coverage into the North Sea between Norfolk, Suffolk and Kent and Holland. There is also a diagram spanning the top section of the chart showing the depths of the English Channel and German Sea. This rare map also indicates, with contour lines, sea depths. Buache was a renowned member of the school of French cartographic theoreticists, applying scientific theory to describe the earth's physical features.
