A very pretty engraving of Christ's Hospital then in Newgate Street and founded as a hospital for orphans becoming a school, and in the early twentieth century moving to Horsham, West Sussex. The view was published in Maitland's, "The History of London, from its foundation by the Romans, to the Present Time." Since its establishment in 1553, Christ's Hospital has been a charity school, with a core aim to offer children from humble backgrounds the chance of a better education.
