An attractive and interesting German double-hemisphere map of the world showing the Christian and non-Christian countries. The Christian countries are depicted in white and the non-Christian countries are shown to be in darkness and are coloured black. The map is surrounded by allegorical illustrations from around the world including an elephant, oriental King and Native Americans, and between the two hemispheres are a small globe with a crucifix above and a praying man on bended knee - one of the converted. The map appeared originally in a 'parlour' book under the authorship of one, Paul Pressell, and captures the moralistic tone of the 'enlightened' European mind of the period.
